This was my last assignment I had to turn in to our online classroom. Let discuss this and see what we come up with. It is more than likely we will not agree on all points, if any, and that is OK. The more we talk and discuss, the more we learn about ourselves in this world that God created for us.

The assignment:

Therefore is Capitol Punishment a timeless truth that should still be in force today? What about abortion, does it fall into this category of taking a life? Using any of the methods and tools you have learned so far in this course, work to answer either of these questions. Enter into the Timeless Debate Forum and share what you have found. Be ready to defend your position!

my response:

I am going to put Capital Punishment and abortion into the same category, for it is both the killing of a human being, though the reasons and the methods are different, the end result is the same.

As I sought direction through investigation, I was brought to this fact. Jesus Himself submitted to the authorities and was put to death via capital punishment. Does this make capital punishment wrong or right? Though He is God in the flesh, He himself still submitted.

In Romans it tells us:

Romans 13

Submission to the Authorities

1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you.

Our text has told us to take Scripture literally, within its context. We have been talking about timeless truths, which I believe this scripture in Romans to be one of them.

We have studied the Old and New Testaments and have seen God work His miracles within the many different governments. What makes us think we can do any better?

Since the time we have started our studies back in November, we have also seen how society has not really changed that much from Biblical times, prior, during, and after.

In reading the application portion of the Application Bible for Romans 13: 1(p. 1904), it tells us that we should not disobey government authority unless it goes directly against God. Though we can debate that killing through government means, which I consider both capital punishment and abortion to fall under, that it actually does go against God, then we need to put this matter to prayer and let God deal with it. When we allow our personal feelings to get involved, then it becomes a matter that is about man and not God, which is never good, nor successful.

I have my personal feelings about both capital punishment and abortion, but this is not about my personal feelings it is about God. I could also morph Scripture to fit my beliefs, but this does not glorify God and doesn't help others.

I will say that I feel much stronger about the rules within public schools that tells us we cannot openly pray. Prayer is a timeless truth, for which we are told to pray unceasingly and directly affects the spiritual well being of our young people, which directly affects the number of people that fall under the rule of capital punishment and children that are aborted.

I titled my post:

Man – GOD – government, because I believe it is very easy for us to get it mixed up and it could look like this:

GOD – man – government

Or

GOD – government – man

I am in favor of my title.
